The Fake {Chocolate Milk} Shake

I’ve tried sweet potato brownies, I’ve replaced my rice with cauliflower and I’ve bought smaller, coloured plates (it’s supposed to stop you loading up on so much and yet still fill full *eye roll*). All of the above are healthy alternatives, and none of the above makes me a happy person. This fake chocolate milkshake? Very Happy Gemma.

It’s actually a smoothie and it’s packed with stuff that’s pretty darn good for you – greens and fruit and a bunch of minerals – but it tastes like a naughty, rich, deep chocolate-y milkshake. I shit you not, it’s delicious.

I won’t wang on any further because this is starting to sound like the start of all the blog posts that I read with the same disbelieving face you’re wearing now. Actions speak louder than words, so get thee to the kitchen…

Makes 1

You’ll need:

A NutriBullet or blender

2 handfuls spinach

1 banana, roughly chopped

Handful frozen raspberries

4 Medjool dates – the other kinds of dates don’t work, get Medjool

1 squeeze honey – use Manuka for extra health benefits if you’re budget allows, otherwise the shop-bought squeezy stuff is fine

1 tbsp almond butter

2 tbsp cacao powder

Almond milk

Are you ready for this? Try to keep up.

Put all the ingredients into your NutriBullet cup or blender, fill it up half way with almond milk, and blitz for 10 seconds.

This is the perfect milkshake-like consistency for me, but if you like it a little thinner, just add water and blitz again.

Try it for breakfast – or with breakfast, this ain’t no diet blog – in the afternoon instead of a chocolate bar – or with your chocolate bar – or as a sweet finisher post-dinner.
